The Emerald City

The Emerald City

I can not choose my favorite color from the palette of this Fall's colors!  It might just be for the simple reason that I am a notoriously indecisive person, but I prefer to lean toward the fact that every shade is so rich and luxurious!
I chose the opulent EMERALD GREEN to feature!  This green has the perfect amount of sassiness while having a regal feel at the same time.  The more I look at it the more I fall in love!
You can add dashes of the hue to "spruce" up an outfit and give a little personality!  It looks fabulous with almost any color, and I am tempted to encourage my obsession by regarding the foresty shade as a neutral!  I feel that chocolate brown heavily complements the green tone while adding a warmth and richness!
Although emerald is popular this season, by investing in classic pieces I know I will be wearing it for years to come!  With the coming of emerald green into my wardrobe, I sure am not in Kansas anymore...and I do not want to go back!

Falling for Fall

I absolutely love Essie's Fall 2012 color palette!  The colors emulate what fall feels like, and with any of these shades perfectly polished on my fingernails I know for sure that every time I look down I would feel warm inside!
If I HAD to choose a favorite season it would most likely be fall!  The weather in Alabama is ideal, and it is possible to start layering while still exposing skin.  I also cannot resist the shades of leaves and the crisp feeling in the air!  Fall without a doubt has a distinct smell.
This set of 6 colors will serve as MY Fall outfit inspiration!  Where do you get yours?  Keep a lookout because the next post to come is sure to mesmerOZ.

Fashion Future Advice

Today, I'm going to try something new. I've decided to give a piece of 'fashion education' daily, of course along with my usual trend watches and so forth.
I am going to start with fashion advice for the those who seek a future career involving fashion (i.e journalism, designing, styling, photography, etc.) I've created a list of basics that you need to keep track of while working your way to these positions. If you have any further questions, feel free to comment or shoot me an email @ classynotclashy@gmail.com.

Fashion Future Advice:
1. Keep up with a blog. Whether you're going into designing, journalism, or photography, have a blog so that you can refer to it when writing a resume for a job or a college. People want to see that you're committed, have talent, and are willing to work for it. It shows that you have an interest and passion for what you do. It honestly doesn't matter as much how many followers you have, but the quality of the blogging matters most. Writing skills are vital if you are looking into journalism, and blogging is a perfect way to showcase your talent!
2. Research. Before applying for that job or college, look into it first. It helps to know exactly what you're getting into. Additionally, it helps with the application process as to what you should include or not include. If you don't know where to start looking for a job or college, you need to research different options and see what fits you best. Especially when choosing a college, keep in mind the location, population, available programs, and requirements. It's good to have a list of 'back-up' (not what you really want but you can get into), 'good' (something you're interested in and can be accepted), and 'dream' (one that seems challenging to be accepted, but where you want to go). Always shoot for the highest, but know that you always have backups. There are many colleges that have English and journalism departments, but no design or fashion ones. The best thing to do is major in journalism, and attend a graduate college in New York that has fashion, or intern during the summer or for a semester to get into the field.
3. Moderate your social media accounts. Be careful with what you put out there. Nowadays, bosses and counselors at colleges check your Twitter, Facebook, etc. to see what kind of reputation you have. If you have pictures of you 'partying' with a red solo cup, or you tend to cuss a lot in your posts, they may choose the other person that applied for that scholarship or job. It would be horrible to lose something like that over the fact that you cannot moderate your accounts. If you absolutely cannot keep up with it, don't have an account. It's as easy as that!
4. Attend local fashion week in your city/town. Most of you have a somewhat larger town within 60 miles from where you live. I know where I live they have a local fashion week, and my high school teacher holds a field trip to go to it since it takes place on week days. Attend these as much as possible. The earlier you learn, the earlier you get a start on your career. Although these may not be as big as NYFW, they're still educational in the world of fashion and sometimes renowned people in the fashion industry make appearances!
5. Follow your dreams. Have faith in yourself. You can do it. "Shoot for the moon, and even if you miss you'll land among the stars." That quote is true. Never say never. Anything can happen. We can be who we want to be, and we should use the right that we have, for we are very lucky to have it.

I hope these tips assist you on your path to a fashion future! I know I'm ready to start mine!

New Fetish

Does anyone remember the Silly Band craze?  I sure do!  Middle schoolers everywhere were strolling about with colorful and tacky bands up to their elbows!  I never really joined that fad, but I have found a much classier and grown-up version to satisfy the want that every girl has to stack eye candy sky high!
These are roll on bracelets hand crocheted and beaded in Nepal!  I recently received a peach tinted one from a friend and I have worn it almost everyday since!  It is safe to say I am obsessed with the slight shimmer it gives an outfit.  I also love the peach color because it is almost a neutral so it has endless possibilities of what to wear it with!  I can not wait to do an outfit post including it!  I am definitely going to buy another one to wear with the peach, but there are so many colors to choose from it makes my head hurt!  I am almost decided on a teal one like below.
If you are interested in purchasing one, they can be found all over the internet!  You can Google "Roll On Nepal Bracelet" or check out this Etsy shop which has a wide array!

Critiquing New Fashion Magazine

You read it fashionistas- there's a brand new fashion magazine if you have not already checked it out! CR The Fashion Book recently released its first issue: Rebirth. The editor explains that the photo stories throught the issue are based off of the 'rebirth' theme. To read about the inspiration and details, you'll have to see for yourself! It's definitely a new take on a fashion magazine- maybe that's what the industry needs, a rebirth.

This Week's Style Trends

Checking in with this week's trend watches! I've found some great pieces for ya'll to check out this week, and you'll definitely be clicking away to get the good deals!

#1 Pura Vida Bracelets

Remember taking Spanish? The culture part of the tests were the least favorite besides audio. Well, do you remember the phrase "Pura Vida" from Costa Rica? It was a common saying that literally means 'pure life', but Costa Ricans use it as a greeting. This brand has reached out to help those in Costa Rica by selling Pura Vida bracelets. I actually recall hearing of them before back when they only had a couple of bracelets out. Now their website is full of bracelets, necklaces, and even anklets! They also have t-shirts as well if I'm not mistaken, so definitely check them out! You'll even feel better buying them because it goes to a great cause, and it's cheap! Win- win situation (:
Pura Vida Bracelet: The Braided Collection
$15.00

Pura Vida Charity Collection: Autism Awareness
$5.00
Pura Vida Anklet
$6.00

#2 Loafers and Oxfords

Loafers and oxfords are a fall must have this season. Among the different styles, cheetah print and solid brown/khaki with a bold, colorful, line at the bottom are the most popular. I particularly like the ones with the colorful bottom line, but I don't have any yet. I saw a pair in TJ Maxx the other day, but unfortunately they weren't my size! & I also have had my eyes on a pair at Francessca's that are very similar. Not only are they perfect for fall weather, but schools like mine with a closed-toe shoe policy approve of them!

Go Jane leopard loafers
GoJane.com
$19.40

BP 'Tabor' Oxford
Nordstrom
$69.95

#3 Color watch: Jewel Tones
Jewel tones are on the rage this season. They're classy, sophisticated, and have deep meaning. I recently studies color theory in a class, and many advertisers, artists, writers, and designers use it in their careers. If you ever get a chance, research it! For example, purple means royalty, blue means peace/calm, and yellow means bright, cheerful.
3.1 Phillip Lim Silk Blend
net-a-porter.com
$455
Paul & Joe Cotton Dress
shopbop.com
$341

#5 Striped Jeans
You heard it- striped jeans is the latest denim trend via NY Fashion Week! Teen Vogue confirmed this as one of the top 13 trends of 2012. I will definitely be checking out my local boutique soon for them! If not, I'll have to order a pair online.

Janice Ultra Skinny- Stripes
Level 99
$150

NYC Tripp Antique Striped Jean
Urban Outfitters
$79.00

That's all for this week ladies! Catch you next time for more! (: Any suggestions, ideas, comments, questions, feedback, etc., just comment below or shoot us an email @ classynotclashy@gmail.com

Top Products

I have a small little feeling that I might be like a lot of other girls due to the fact that I am a little obsessed with beauty products!  I would love to think that I have extensive and valuable knowledge about the deep dark world of makeup..while in reality I just contain a slight addiction that might be unhealthy.  Who doesn't love to look glamorous?  Who doesn't want to look like a girl from the pages of Vogue?  I think makeup gives me a small glimmer of hope that I too can look smoothly airbrushed.   And honestly, there is not really a problem with that!  I now share with you my top beauty products! (They are in no certain order!)

Zara New York 666 5th Avenue Perfume
This perfume is a very crisp and fresh scent, yet it has some sweet and flowery undertones.  It smells like Spring to me and I am addicted!  I keep the rollerball in my purse for freshening up during the day, and it never fails to make me feel clean!  And seriously, how could you ignore that adorable packaging?!   P.S. I grabbed this picture from holliegrace.blogspot.com considering it is impossible to find on the internet!  While there I discovered that she runs a great blog and soon followed on bloglovin'!

Stila Eyeshadow in Kitten
If you want the honest truth of how this came to be my favorite eyeshadow, then so be it.  I won the Stila Holiday Daydream Palette at a Dirty Santa!  I was always searching for a nude and shimmery shadow that would last through the school day!  This is a definite beauty must-have!

Maybelline Babylips
I had the Baby Lips in Clear (with the blue packaging).  It had the most delightful scent-one might say it smelled like gummy bears- and felt perfect on my lips!  It did everything a lip balm should do (along with provide SPF 20 protection), and as the price goes down my thumbs go UP!

Back to School!

Wow.  What a summer this has been!  I am so glad to be back!  I can gladly say that I have finished all of my summer homework for Advanced Placement classes, and just in time for Monday classes!  I am sure everyone is fully aware that it is back to the grindstone, whether school or work!  I have put together a Polyvore set inspired by back to school shopping!

At my school we are required to wear uniforms, but that does not have to hold back personal style!  By using accessories and makeup we are still free to express ourselves!  No matter how much my friends make fun of me for it, lip color is a great way to look and feel great!  And when you feel fabulous that is when you can achieve great things!  The Chloe Marcie is on my list of dream bags!  In a camel color it is so versatile, and the size couldn't be better!  (Especially for school!)  Pearls light up a face tired from cramming the night before.  These shoes are a dream!  Keds + Madewell couldn't have failed!  The colors feel studious, while the polka dots are fun and quirky!  Keds are a must grab for school season!
